Mathi Peera Pattichadhu – Sardine in Coconut Mix

Ingredients:

  • Sardine – 10 nos

  • Shallots/pearlonion – 10 nos

  • Green Chillies - 6 nos

  • Finely chopped Ginger- ½ tsp

  • Finely chopped Garlic- ½ tsp

  • Grated Coconut – 1 cup

  • Corriander powder – 1 tsp

  • Chilli powder – 1 tsp

  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp

  • Fenugreek Powder -a pinch

  • Kudampuli/Gambooge - 2-3 pieces

  • Salt to taste

  • Coconut Oil – 1 tbsp

  • Curry Leaves -1 stem

Method: Soak kudampuli in water. Clean well and cut the fishes into small pieces. Drain the water well. Cut Ginger, Garlic and onion in to fine pieces. Grind together grated coconut, little salt, coriander powder, turmeric powder, green chillies, and some curry leaves with little amount of water and make a coarse mixture. Keep it aside. Soak gambooge in some salt water, keep it aside. In a hot pan (meen chatti is preferred), add oil and splutter mustard seeds, followed by ginger and garlic. Stir for few minutes, add chopped onion and cook till it becomes transparent. Add the ground mix followed by gambooge with soaked water. Add the fish pieces and allow it to dip in to the mix. Cover the top and cook for 5 minutes in a medium flame. Remove the cover and allow it to dry, avoid to stick on the bottom of the pan. Serve hot with rice.
