Thalassery Style Fish Curry

Ingredients

  • Fish (King fish/salmon, or any white fish, cut & cleaned)

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 2 green chillies

  • 1 tbs ginger, cut in small pieces

  • Tomatoes - 2

  • Curry leaves – 8-10 leaves

  • 1/2 tsp chili powder

  • 2 to 3 raw mangoes (make cubes)

  • 1 big tomato, chopped

  • 2 tsp Fish curry masala

  • 1 tsp coconut oil

To Grind:

  • 3/4 cup coconut, grated

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder

  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds

Method: Mix the fish pieces with salt and keep to one side. In a meen chatti (claypot), cook tomatoes with water adding raw mangoes, turmeric powder, chilli powder, ginger pieces, curry leaves and salt. In the meantime, grind the coconut with turmeric powder, cumin seeds and chilli powder .Add this grinded paste and Fish curry masala to the gravy.

Take this gravy to a boil and then add fish pieces. Cook on low flame till the fish pieces are cooked properly. (Do not overcook or blend the fish pieces). Pour 1 tsp coconut oil over the fish curry and garnish with curry leaves.
